1. Registrations for HASS on the Hill June 15-16

Your response to registering for "Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences on the Hill" has been so strong that we had to close registrations off a week early! 175 of your colleagues will be attending the event.

Registrations from MPs have also risen, with 109 parliamentarians accepting our invitation for 30 minute meetings with a pair of people from the sector.

2. Advising appointments

We hope to contact all registrants by email in about a week, to let them know which Parliamentarian they will be meeting, when and where the meeting is, and who their partner from the HASS sector will be.

3. Program

We begin with lunch at the National Library of Australia, at noon on Tuesday 15 June. Dinner that night is at the excellent Ottoman Restaurant.

The program ends about 4 pm on Wednesday June 16, after the National Press Club address and the inaugural AGM. Some people will have late afternoon appointments with MPs, and we will advise you of these meeting times soon.

Full program is up on our web site

4. Sponsors for HASS on the Hill

Eight groups have agreed to support the event so far, and we are very grateful to the following organisations:

Platinum sponsors
DASSH Deans
Innovative Research Universities
Gold sponsor
Australian Research Council
Silver sponsors
Australian Vice-Chancellors' Committee
CSIRO
Group of Eight
National Library of Australia
National Tertiary Education Union

5. HASS on the Hill - Accommodation

If you did not manage to get one of the rooms we reserved at University House ((02) 6125 5111, and mention the CHASS event), we suggest going to the website: www.wotif.com.au

Bookings at Wotif only operate two weeks in advance, and will not be open yet.

6.Business at the AGM

The two matters to be decided are:

  1. We need to adopt a constitution. Our draft constitution has been posted to our website, and this document will be put to the meeting.
  2. We also need to elect the inaugural Board. The Steering Committee is identifying candidates for the Board of CHASS, and will put a recommended list to the AGM. This does not preclude further nominations from the floor.

7. Foundation Members

To date we have 37 Foundation Members (see list below). All groups and organisations interested in the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences are invited to join CHASS as Foundation Members. The application form is on our website: www.chass.org.au

Foundation Membership costs $100 and is for organisations rather than individuals. Only Foundation Members will be able to vote at the inaugural AGM on the constitution, and elect the new Board.
