2009 Communicating your research
Friday 14 August, 2009 University of NSW, Sydney
About the workshop
The Council for the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences will partner with the Council of Australian Postgraduate Associations in hosting the 2009 CAPA Postgrad Roadshow afternoon session; Communicating your research to a public audience.
The session will be a practical one aimed at developing postgraduates' skills in pitching their research stories to Australian media outlets. A panel of media representatives and communication specialists, including CHASS Executive Director Helen O'Neil and CHASS Board Member Professor Catharine Lumby, will give feedback.
The session panellists will also discuss how postgraduates can use traditional and new media channels to communicate their research.
In addition this seminar looks to promote the value of public intellectualism and to give young researchers the confidence to apply their knowledge and skills to the pressing questions and challenges facing Australia's society, culture, economy and environment in the 21st Century.
The Postgrad Roadshow also has an industry showcase for professional and academic associations. It is an opportunity to meet with postgraduates and promote the value of membership in their organisation. CAPA and CHASS invites CHASS member organisations to participate in the showcase.
This is an opportunity to connect with up-and-coming researchers in your discipline.
CAPA will take the Postgrad Roadshows across the country in the second half of 2009,
- Sydney - 14 August at the University of NSW, Sydney
- Canberra - 26 October in conjunction with CHASS's annual event HASS on the Hill
- Melbourne - 1 December
CAPA's Postgrad Roadshow offers postgraduate students a unique opportunity to meet and network with postgraduates from other universities.
