HASS in the Capital 2008
Tuesday and Wednesday, 2 - 3 September 2008, Canberra
CHASS - the next steps
This year our regular HASS on the Hill (HOTH) events have been amended to focus on the forward policy agenda for the HASS sector.
HASS in the Capital consists of a dinner at Old Parliament House featuring a distinguished speaker and unrivalled networking opportunities with colleagues across the HASS sector; 'CHASS - the next steps', a day for members to contribute to formulating key objectives and priorities for the next phase of CHASS' development; and our traditional National Press Club live televised address.
We hope that you will join us in Canberra for dinner on the evening of 2 September and for 'CHASS - the next steps' on 3 September. Please join us also for our traditional National Press Club live televised address - this year to be delivered by Senator the Hon Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, who will speak about progress on the innovation agenda. This will take place at noon on Wednesday 3 September.
Senator the Hon Kim Carr's National Press Club address is presented jointly by:
- The Council for the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences
- The Australian Academy of the Humanities
- The Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia
'CHASS - the next steps' will focus on our membership in the context of the broad policy environment and the challenges and opportunities for the HASS sector in it. We ask each member organisation to send at least one representative. The day will
- be preceded by a short discussion paper sent to members that canvasses the broad policy environment and the opportunities and challenges for HASS within it
- be facilitated by a number of leaders in the sector
- result in the development of options and priorities for CHASS as a direct expression of members' views.
Please register as soon as possible using the online facility on the CHASS website. The dinner and 'CHASS - the next steps' are free of charge but the National Press Club Address will cost $55. Travel and accommodation arrangements are the responsibility of participants. The Brassey Hotel has some rooms available at $135 for CHASS members. Please state that you are a representative of a CHASS member organisation when booking. Please note that Canberra accommodation is very tight when the Parliament is meeting so book early.
Also, the Minister's Press Club address is proving to be very popular, so we recommend that you register early to guarantee a place. Please indicate whether you are registering for the Press Club address and lunch when registering for HASS in the Capital.
