About Articles

"Articles" has articles on news and policy in the arts, humanities and social sciences.

Precis of the three most recent articles will be posted on the home page, with a brief description and a link.

As articles are supplanted by more recent news, they will be moved down the list and then shifted into an archive, where they will remain accessible.

We invite all CHASS Members and readers to suggest suitable articles. Your contributions and suggestions will be acknowledged.

Strategic Framework for Research Infrastructure Investment

7 July 2010

The National Research Infrastructure Council (NRIC) is developing a Strategic Framework for Research Infrastructure Investment to guide the strategic intent, principles and approaches to investing in research infrastructure.

Over the next twelve months NRIC intends to consult widely on a number of key issues that would inform the development of this Framework, including approaches to prioritising and coordinating investments across different levels of infrastructure, access to international research infrastructure, and mechanisms for mapping and ‘stocktaking’ current and past research infrastructure investments. A process for identifying and prioritising landmark research infrastructure is part of the development of this Framework.

The first stage is a paper on this process which is open for comment by universities, research agencies, states and business. The paper proposes a register of potential landmark infrastructure projects, and criteria for forming short lists for discussion. NRIC specifically includes HASS disciplines and projects in the process.

Comments close 16 July 2010.
